GREATER HAVERHILL ARTS ASSOCIATION 33rd ANNUAL WEEK LONG ART EXHIBIT 2006
Showcasing artists works with the theme
"LIFE IN NEW ENGLAND"
The public is invited to this wonderful weeklong art exhibit that is a proud tradition, by the Greater Haverhill Arts Association, located at the Haverhill Public Library Auditorium, 99 Main Street, Haverhill, MA 01830. At the opening event, on the evening of Monday, May 15th, there will be opening remarks by the Mayor of Haverhill, City Councilor, Mary Ellen Day O’Brien, and the Director of the Haverhill Public Library.
The above speakers will arrive at 6:30 p.m. for an early viewing prior to our doors opening up to the public at 7:00 p.m., at which time they will address visitors and guests. The Mayor will be acknowledging The Greater Haverhill Arts Association’s donation, The GHAA Award, to Haverhill High School, enabling a graduating senior will be recognized for achievement in curricular and extra-curricular activities.
The Greater Haverhill Arts Association Annual Art Exhibit will open to the public at 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2006. The theme will be “LIFE IN NEW ENGLAND”. There will be exhibits – demonstrations – raffles and a 50/50 auction. Demonstrations by artists will take place each day. A schedule will be posted.
Hours: Monday, May 15, 2006 - 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; The Exhibit closes on Saturday, May 20, 2006. Saturday hours: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Art Exhibit categories for judging are in oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, dry media (pencil, chalk, charcoal), mixed media (collage and misc) and photography. They will be judged in professionals and amateurs levels. Ribbons and awards will be decided by judges.
The Greater Haverhill Arts Association consists of artists from throughout the Merrimack Valley. There are artists from Haverhill and its surrounding communities, such as, Amesbury, Andover, Atkinson, Derry, East Hampstead, Georgetown, Gloucester, Groveland, Hampstead, Ipswich, Lawrence, Newburyport, North Andover, Merrimac, Methuen, Plaistow, Salem, Salisbury and Sandown.
EXHIBIT SCHEDULE 2006: For members - Setup begins Friday, May 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. From 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., participating artists will be bringing their work for receiving by officials. On Saturday May 13 setup opens at 10:30 a.m. with receiving from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Judging will begin at noon. The Committee will hang paintings Saturday afternoon from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Announces for 2007 its 16th annual
ART FESTIVAL
For the 16th year, the GHAA Art Festival
for 2007 to be held on Saturday September 8, 2007 it is to benefit a scholarship fund, workshops and art demonstration
programs. Again this year, this “art in the park”
ART FESTIVAL will be held on the Bradford Common (across
from the white church) on Route 125, South Main St, Bradford,
Ma. There is plenty of free parking and food concessions stands in the area.

For the 15th year, the GHAA Art Festival for 2006 is to benefit a scholarship fund, workshops and art demonstration programs. Again this year, this “art in the park” art festival will be held on the Bradford Common (across from the white church) on Route 125, South Main St, Bradford, Ma.
Participants will include artists from
the Greater Haverhill area, as well as the Greater Merrimack
Valley and Southern New Hampshire. A wide range of art
is available to the public for viewing and for the collector
or shopper with a keen eye for art. Available will be
paintings, sculpture, prints, mixed media, photography
and crafts. Paintings will include works in oil, acrylic,
pastel and watercolor. The public is welcome to stroll
through the many aisles of art on display and admission
is free. There is plenty of free parking available and
food concession stands are in the area.

PAINTING DEMONSTRATIONS
Monthly scheduled demonstrator for example are such as Doris Rice. She is a member of the Seacoast Artist Association. She will paint a landscape in watercolor. There is a short bio on her web site, www.dorisrice.com Our meeting starts at 6:30, it is free of charge. It is located at the Johnson Auditorium on the second floor of the Haverhill Public Library.

Painting demonstrations take place at GHAA monthly meetings throughout the year, excluding the months of January, February and the GHAA Art Festival month of September. Demonstration meetings typically take place on Tuesday evenings, commencing at 6:30 P.M. in the Auditorium at the Haverhill Public Library at the Summer Street entrance.
Recent demonstrators have been such well known artists as Tom Gill of Lowell; Caleb Stone of Ipswich and Dutch-born artist Marjet Lesk-Royaards. Marjet was educated in Europe and also graduated from the Moore Institute of Art in the United States.
As an attendee, you will get the opportunity to see the painting process from the setup phase, easel, pallet/colors, brushes and support, from beginning to end. The demonstrations are open to question and answer sessions and give attendees the opportunity to learn. Meetings are very educational, informative and usually turn into fun evenings.

GHAA member Disabled Veteran receives National Award
Bud Smith, painting under the name of Jacob Towle, a disabled veteran, was recently honored with "First Place" in oil painting at the National Veterans Competition in Denver Colorado where he had spent a week in the National Veterans Art Competition. Bud proudly has a son serving in the United States Military. Bud lives live in Newburyport and is active in the art community. Bud lived in Haverhill for sixty three years and retired as a police sergeant from Haverhill in 1985. He is 130% disabled combat Vet' of Vietnam.

PAINTING WORKSHOPS
GHAA Workshops are directed by GHAA senior artist Dena Carbone, who has been directing these workshops since 1983. Instructors include such well known Artists as Mark Hayden, a Copley Master, Artist / Instructor and Watercoloristist Joan Rademacher Water Color instructor and Artist / Instructor. Dena announces the schedule early each year for your convenience and planning. Workshop sites and times are published in the Monthly Newsletter distributed to members and are also provided to the press. There is no charge for GHAA workshops, however donations are gladly accepted.
